Line a small baking pan and heat the oven.
For classic brownies, combine melted butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. For vegan brownies, combine oil, plant-based drink, sugar and vanilla.
Stir in cocoa powder, flour and salt until just combined.
Fold through dark chocolate or chocolate chips, checking labels when avoiding milk.
Spread into the pan and bake until the edges are set and the center is still slightly fudgy.
Cool before cutting into squares so the brownies hold together.
